The institution is a charitable one and hence, not profit oriented. A plot of 25 cents has been purchased with donations and membership fees received from the trustees, other promoters and well-wishers. Another 5 cents of land has been donated by one of the trust members. Santhitheeram is located in a peaceful and serene area of Kuttur, a beautiful village near Trichur town. The compound wall has been built and building construction has begun.
Construction of the first building is progressing apace. Currently, we have 4 rooms, each room capable of acccomodating 2 patients.This building will eventually have five such rooms. One trained attender is posted in each room, so that patients receive 24 hours care. A staff nurse will be in charge of 10 patients.Training is imparted to these personnel by well experienced senior doctors.
Food is provided as per the needs of the patient. A doctor attends all patients once a day and for emergencies, one doctor will be on call.
Aware of the urgency and compulsion of our cause, we have already started a home-care service and an outpatient clinic. Trained nurses and attendants are available on call. But our mission is to establish a hospice,that is fully equipped to give residential care to those who cannot be taken care of in their own homes.
The estimated initial cost of the building with its attending facilities and equipment is Rs. 20 - 25 lakhs. Efforts are being made to harness the co-operation of NRls, Social Service Organizations and other charitable sources to raise the required amount. The foundation stone was laid on 26th October,2001. We pray for the compassion of well wishers, to make this dream a reality.
